Excuse My English: Layering on the Light Side

Spring came to Vashon early this year, with a collection of colorful oil paintings by artist and geologist Stephanie Lasalle entitled “Excuse My English; Layering on the Light Side.” Her paintings represent the layering in life and nature and are full of insight, inspiration, and the hope that comes with the new growth of spring. Check out the aftermath in our Archive section.

Geo sapiens, Geology and Art

The maybe-first-ever show of art works done entirely by geologists, other earth scientists, and earth science students will be presented during the month of November at the Two Wall Gallery.  Having posted calls for geo-artists in several professional society publications (including through the Geological Society of America and the Geological Society of London), Curator Greg Wessel was able to assemble a collection of works by about 50 earth scientists from around the world, including submissions from across the US, Canada, the UK, France, Slovenia, Australia, New Zealand, and even Okinawa.  Works in nearly all media are presented, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, pen and pencil, fiber art, stained glass, stone sculpture and mosaics, photography, ceramic, and even one cartoonist, some furniture and one incredibly beautiful lamp made of thin stone slices.  These works together illustrate the intimate connection these geoscientists have with the Earth and its mysteries.
